What began in 2005 as a small, family-driven firm with big dreams has grown into the largest civil engineering company based in St. Johns County, serving clients throughout Florida and beyond with a full range of engineering, surveying, planning, and landscape architecture services.
From Family Spirit to Firm Foundation
In the early years, Matthews Design Group was built on determination, collaboration, and a true sense of family. Every new team member quickly became part of something bigger—working side by side on projects that would set the foundation for the firm’s reputation.
The journey hasn’t been without challenges. Like many businesses, we faced uncertain times during the 2008 economic crash. What could have been the end of the road became a defining moment of resilience. We learned, adapted, and came out stronger than ever, driven by a belief in the people and the work that define who we are.

By our 15th anniversary in 2020, Matthews Design Group had grown into a full-service firm, expanding beyond engineering to include surveying, landscape architecture, utilities, and planning. Even as we navigated the challenges of a global pandemic, our focus on teamwork, client trust, and innovation kept us moving forward.
In 2021, we proudly joined DCCM, a national family of engineering firms. This partnership allowed us to expand our reach and resources while staying true to the local leadership and values that have been the heart of our success from the beginning. As part of this transition, we introduced a refreshed brand identity, uniting our legacy as Matthews Design Group with the broader DCCM network while retaining the same trusted team and commitment to excellence.
