Survey Instrument Operator

Matthews | DCCM is looking for a Land Survey Instrument Operator to join our team in Saint Augustine, Florida.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Land Survey Instrument Operator with hands-on experience. In this role, you will work alongside a Survey Party Chief to perform a variety of land surveying tasks, including boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys. Your expertise with Trimble instruments will be critical in capturing accurate field data and supporting the delivery of high-quality survey results.

What You Will Do:

• Operate Trimble GPS/GNSS, total stations, data collectors, and related survey equipment.
• Assist in the setup, calibration, and maintenance of survey instruments.
• Perform field data collection for boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction staking projects.
• Interpret field notes and construction plans to ensure proper data collection and staking.
• Record accurate and thorough field notes, sketches, and reports.
• Communicate effectively with Survey Party Chief and team members to ensure project objectives are met.
• Ensure adherence to company safety protocols and procedures while working in the field.
• Travel to job sites as needed, including potential overnight stays.
• Support survey crews with loading, unloading, and maintaining equipment and vehicles.

What You Bring:

• 1+ years of experience in land surveying, preferably as an instrument operator.
• Proficient in the use of Trimble survey equipment or similar data collection software.
• Familiarity with standard surveying practices, field procedures, and terminology.
• Ability to read and interpret maps, construction plans, and survey drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection.
• Physical ability to work outdoors in various terrains and weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• High school diploma or GED required; additional technical training or coursework in surveying is a plus.

Preferred Qualification

• Experience with robotic total stations and RTK GPS/GNSS systems.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D or other drafting software (a plus but not required).
• OSHA 10 or other relevant safety certifications.
